DHARMIK TEACHER
In these modern times,
the disbelief in God wave has been so strong that the interest of
children and youngsters in the religion has come to a very minimal
level. T he
glorious heritage of Sikhism, the history full of the unparalleled
sagas, heroism tales of dedicated Gursikhs and the sources of
glorious teachings of the Gurbani have almost disappeared. There
were times when the basic religious teachings and imparting of Sikh
values and virtues were managed very responsibly at the family
level, through father, mother and grandparents. Besides, the
Gurdwaras and Khalsa schools were a strong point to firmly ingrain
the spirit and ideology of Sikhism in young children in a profusely
comprehensive way. Khalsa schools and colleges were established so
that the youngsters studying in them should learn basic tenets of
Sikhism, should become Amritdhari, understand and perform the daily
Nitnem routine and learn to devote their lives as per the Sikh way
of life. But it
is sad state of affairs that the Sikh children are not getting even
introduction to the basic tenets of Sikhism either from their
parents, grandparents or from the Khalsa schools and colleges at
large. Leaving aside a few Khalsa schools and colleges, most of
these institutions are not imparting even basic religious education
to their students. Divinity teachers in Khalsa schools are, now a
matter of history.
Consequently the
students start disrespecting and cutting their full grown unshorn
hairs, start taking liquor and drugs, start making jokes of the Sikh
Kakaars and even the Sikh ideology and do such foolish, absurd and
silly actions that on listening to these comments, the responsible
Sikhs feel disturbed.
Keeping
the above in view, Gurmat Gian Missionary College has arranged the
imparting of Gurmat education to students through religious
teachers in selected schools of Ludhiana. These teachers are giving
religious guidance on regular basis. The college has published a set
of course books in consonance with educational standard of the
students , so that the spirit of Sikh way of living is inculcated in
students.
